Trekking
April to november in Japan
Multi-day trekking, Japan
One Hundred Mountains of Japan (百名山), the famous list compiled by Kyuuya Fukada in 1964 of his favorite Japanese summits. Nine of the summits are located in Hokkaido. The translation of the book by Martin Hood published by the University of Hawaii Press is outstanding and highly recommended for all mountain lovers.
Hokkaido’s Daisetsuzan Range: two to seven night itineraries through kamui mintara, or “playground of the gods,” in the Ainu language (June-August & end of September).
Hokkaido’s Rishiri and Rebun Islands: day trips from comfortable accommodations around the islands to see alpine flowers blooming 100m above sea-level (June-July).
Northern Alps of Honshu: two to ten night itineraries, camping or staying in mountain lodges, as we cross the rugged trails of the northern alps.
Particularly beautiful from mid June to early August for alpine flower viewing and mid-September to mid-October for autumn colours.
